## At the resort

- The pool: A curved outdoor pool with a wooden deck, looking out over open fields to the hills, lit after dark.
- Bonfire evenings: On winter evenings we light a fire on the lawn and draw the chairs into a circle.
- Rain shower: A canopy of sprinklers over a dance floor beside the pool: the place to be on a summer afternoon.
- Picnic tables: Wooden tables on the lawn for tea, cards or a slow breakfast.
- Children's play area: Swings, a slide and a garden swing on the grass, close to the cottages.
- Lawns and garden: Wide lawns under old trees, with benches and room to run.
- The dining hall: A bright hall for meals, family gatherings and larger groups.
- Cricket net: A practice net at the edge of the grounds, for anyone who travels with a bat.

## In Pachmarhi (29 km, about one hour by road)

- Jungle safari (3 km from the resort): Open-gypsy drives into the buffer forest of the Satpura Tiger Reserve, from a gate about 3 km away. Gaur, deer, sloth bear, giant squirrels and, with luck, a leopard.
- Dhoopgarh (Sunrise and sunset point): The highest point in the Satpura range and in Madhya Pradesh. People come for the sunset; the ridgelines fade into layers of gold and blue.
- Bee Fall (Waterfall): Pachmarhi's best-known waterfall, a walk down from the road to a pool where you can stand under the cascade.
- Madhai (Satpura National Park): The core zone of the tiger reserve, reached by boat across the Denwa. Jeep, boat and walking safaris, about an hour and a half from the resort.
- Pandav Caves (Rock-cut caves): Five ancient rock-cut caves on a low sandstone hill with a garden below, the place Pachmarhi takes its name from.
- Handi Khoh (Ravine viewpoint): A sheer, forested ravine some 300 feet deep, seen from a railed viewpoint at its edge.
- Chauragarh (Hilltop temple): A climb of about 1,300 steps to a Shiva temple on a peak, ringed with thousands of tridents left by pilgrims.
- Christ Church (Colonial Pachmarhi): A stone church from 1875 with a tall spire, in the quiet middle of the old cantonment town.
- Pachmarhi Lake (Boating): A small lake in the town with boats for hire, an easy, gentle stop for families with children.
- Satpura wildlife (Leopards, gaur, sloth bears): One of the quieter tiger reserves in India, known for leopards, sloth bears, gaur and the Indian giant squirrel.

The resort can arrange a taxi or an open gypsy for Pachmarhi sightseeing and the Satpura jungle safari.
