Before you start

How this plan works

This plan assumes you are staying at The Golden Woods Resort at Matkuli, on the road to Pachmarhi. If you arrive by train, Pipariya station is 35 minutes away; check-in is from 12 noon.

Pachmarhi town is an hour up the road. Sightseeing inside the forest area is by local open gypsy with a day permit, which we can arrange so that it is waiting when you reach the top.

Day 1

The classic circuit, ending at Dhoopgarh

The points every first-time visitor should see, arranged so that you finish at the sunset point.

7:30 am: breakfast at the resort, then drive up to Pachmarhi (about an hour).
9:00 am: Pandav Caves and the garden below.
10:00 am: Jata Shankar, the cave shrine in the ravine.
11:15 am: Handi Khoh and Priyadarshini Point, two great views a few minutes apart.
1:00 pm: lunch in town.
2:30 pm: Bee Fall. Allow an hour and a half for the steps and the pool.
4:45 pm: drive to Dhoopgarh for the sunset.
7:30 pm: back at the resort for dinner.

Day 2

Forest in the morning, water in the afternoon

A safari from the gate near the resort, then the gentler side of Pachmarhi, or simply the pool.

6:00 am: buffer-zone jungle safari, about 3 km from the resort. Back by 9:30 for breakfast.
11:00 am: drive up for Apsara Vihar and the Rajat Prapat viewpoint (a forest walk).
1:30 pm: lunch, then Christ Church and a boat on Pachmarhi Lake.
4:30 pm: back at the resort. Swim while the light goes.
Evening: bonfire on the lawn.
Prefer a slow day? Skip the afternoon drive and stay by the pool.

Day 3 morning

Check-out is at 10 am. Trains from Pipariya run through the day; tell us your train and we will time the taxi. If you are driving towards Bhopal, the Madhai entrance of Satpura National Park is on the way and makes a good afternoon safari.

Good to know

Are 2 days enough for Pachmarhi?

Yes. Two full days cover the main sights and a jungle safari at a comfortable pace. A third or fourth day adds the treks to Chauragarh and Duchess Fall and a day at Madhai.

What can I see in Pachmarhi in one day?

Pandav Caves, Jata Shankar, Handi Khoh, Priyadarshini Point, Bee Fall and the sunset at Dhoopgarh, if you start by 9 am.

How do I get from Pipariya to Pachmarhi?

By road: taxis and buses run from Pipariya station. The Golden Woods Resort is 22 km from the station on that road, and Pachmarhi town is about 50 km.
