Everything the two-day plan has, plus the treks, the temples on the peaks, a safari, and proper time to rest.
- Days
- 4 days, 3 nights
- Covers
- Sights, treks and safari
- Base
- Matkuli, 29 km from town
- Best for
- Families and long weekends
Day 1
Arrive, settle, and an evening in the forest
Keep the first day light. The hills will still be there tomorrow.
- Arrive at Pipariya station; 35 minutes by taxi to the resort. Check-in from 12 noon.
- Lunch, then the pool and the lawns.
- 3:00 pm: afternoon buffer-zone safari, about 3 km from the resort.
- Evening: bonfire and dinner.

Day 2
The classic Pachmarhi circuit
The sights Pachmarhi is famous for, ending at the highest sunset in the state.
- 7:30 am: breakfast, then drive up (about an hour).
- Pandav Caves, Jata Shankar, Handi Khoh and Priyadarshini Point before lunch.
- Lunch in town; a look at Christ Church and the Bison Lodge museum.
- Bee Fall in the afternoon.
- Dhoopgarh for sunset, then back to the resort.

Day 3
Peaks, shrines and waterfalls
The day for the walks that two-day visitors miss. Pick the climb or the falls, or do both if you are fit.
- Early start for Chauragarh: about 1,300 steps to the temple on the peak. Allow four hours up and down.
- On the way: Bada Mahadev and Gupt Mahadev cave shrines.
- Easier alternative: Apsara Vihar and the Rajat Prapat viewpoint, or the trek to Duchess Fall.
- Late lunch, then a boat on Pachmarhi Lake.
- Rajendragiri or Dhoopgarh again for sunset, or an early return and a swim.

Day 4
A slow morning, and Madhai if it is on your way
Check-out is at 10 am, so keep the last morning easy: tea on the sit-out, a walk by the lake beside the resort, breakfast.
If you are driving towards Bhopal, stop at Madhai, the core zone of Satpura National Park, for an afternoon jeep or boat safari. It is about an hour and a half from the resort, on your route.

Adjusting the plan
With children, or with grandparents
Swap Chauragarh for the lake, Apsara Vihar and an extra afternoon at the pool and the play area. Handi Khoh, Priyadarshini Point, Pandav Caves and Dhoopgarh all need very little walking.
In the monsoon the waterfalls are at their best and the hills are green; carry rain jackets, and expect the core safari zones to be closed.

Questions
Good to know
Is a 3 nights, 4 days trip to Pachmarhi worth it?
Yes, if you want more than the standard viewpoints. The extra time lets you climb Chauragarh, walk to Rajat Prapat or Duchess Fall, go on a jungle safari, and still have unhurried time at the resort.
What is the best itinerary for 4 days in Pachmarhi?
Day 1: arrive and take an afternoon safari. Day 2: Pandav Caves, Jata Shankar, Handi Khoh, Bee Fall and Dhoopgarh. Day 3: Chauragarh or the waterfalls, and the lake. Day 4: a slow morning, with Madhai on the way home.
How hard is the climb to Chauragarh?
It is about 1,300 steps and takes most people an hour and a half to two hours up. It needs reasonable fitness, water and an early start. It is not advised for small children or anyone with knee trouble.
Can we do this trip in the monsoon?
Yes. July to September is the greenest season with the fullest waterfalls. Some forest routes and the core safari zones are closed, so plan around the falls and viewpoints.
